Men's Match Play Championship
Olmos Basin Golf Course
March 3rd-5th, 2023
Eligibility:
Any male with amateur status residing in Bexar, Comal, Kendall, Kerr, Wilson, Atascosa, Medina, Guadalupe, or Bandera counties for a minimum of three months prior to the Championship date. Active Duty Military residents are exempt from the three month residency requirement. The Committee has the right to make exceptions in certain circumstances.
Registration opens: 9:00am, Friday January 6th, 2023
Entry Fee:
- $80 for the qualifier. Includes green fee, cart, and tee gift
- Men's Division - $160 additional if you qualify for match play
- Senior Division - $135 additional if you qualify for match play
Entry Deadline:
- 6:00 pm, Sunday February 26th, 2023
- Field is limited to the first 60 paid entries received.
- Any late entries will be admitted based on available space.
- Players who withdraw after the deadline will not receive a refund.
- Players who withdraw before the deadline are subject to a $30.00 service fee.
Yardages:
- Men’s Division—approximately 6700 yards
Schedule:
Competition will be in two stages:
- Stroke Play Shotgun Qualifier – 18 Hole stroke play will be held Friday, March 3rd to determine the top 16 qualifiers. A tie for last qualifier shall be decided by the USGA method of breaking a tie by scorecard playoff per Appendix 1-B of the USGA Rule Book.
- Match Play – General numerical draw will be used. All matches are 18 holes.
Friday March 3rd 7:50am - Shotgun Start Stroke Play Qualifier
1:00pm – Tee Time Start for 1st Round of Match Play
Saturnday March 4th 7:30am – Tee Time Start Quarter Finals
12:30pm – Tee Time Start Semi Finals
Sunday March 5th 7:40am – Finals
3. Depending on participation, we may have a Men's Division and a Senior Men's Division. We will need to have a minimum of 16 in the men's division and 8 in the Senior division to accommodate both. If we do not, we will combine them and the Seniors will play from appropriate tees.
4. Bracket size will be determined by participation.
16-31 players - 16 Seed Bracket
32-52 Players - 32 Seed Bracket
Rules:
- Play will be governed by the Rules of Golf as approved by the USGA.
- All players must conform with the USGA Rules of Amateur Status as specified in the USGA Rules of Golf.
- Rules Committee Decisions will be final.
- Caddies and pull carts are permitted.
- In this competition, a player may obtain distance information by using a device that measures distance only. Devices and distances may be shared with other players.
- This is a SAGA Player of the Year and Rudy’s I-35 Cup points event
Carts:
- For Stroke Play Qualifier: To ensure that carts are available for all contestants, 2 carts are allowed per group.
- For Match Play—there will only be 2 carts per group allowed.
Awards Ceremony:
- March 5, 2023 immediately following play at Olmos Basin
Important Information:
- Rounds may be reduced due to weather and unplayable conditions.
- Starting times will be established by the committee
- Appropriate golf attire is required.
Code of Conduct:
Players are to observe proper golf etiquette at all times. Any abuse or disrespect of fellow competitors, officials, spectators, employees of the host facility, or other persons conducting or attending a Golf San Antonio sponsored event can be grounds for disqualification from the event, and possible rejection of entry for future GSA events. Such abuse may be verbal or physical or threat thereof and includes but is not limited to:
- The use of obscene language
- Physical damage to property or equipment including that of GSA or the host facility
- Being under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances during a competitive round
